Edward Simmons (1852-1931) was an American Impressionist painter who came to St Ives in 1886, and with Howard Butler, were possibly the first artists at Porthmeor. Following his return to the USA in 1891, he became better known as a mural painter, and he created murals for the Criminal Courthouse in Manhatten, the Waldorf Astoria, the Thomas Jefferson Building and the Library of Congress.
