Pilchards: A Brief History of the Cornish Sardine
Porthmeor Studios & Cellars was built for the pilchard industry. This beautifully shot film by Ray Bird tells the story of this industry in Cornwall, charting its glory days and decline, to its resurgence today.
Its main contributors are Brian Stevens, Hon Curator of St Ives Museum, and Nick Howell, owner of the Pilchards Works, two of the leading authorities on the pilchard industry. It also features interviews with fishermen Stefan Glinski and Danny Dowling, and Mark Puckey, Head Chef Lecturer at Rick Stein’s Padstow Seafood School.
